Prognosis Evaluation and Treatment Intervention

A prognostic assessment adds a new dimension to the findings of an assessment by analysing abilities and potentials, as well as the necessary conditions, timescale, and limits for the concerned person's future development. When a patient receives a diagnosis of an illness or condition, their first questions are frequently "what can be done?"—that is, treatment-related questions. Patients also want to know what will happen to them in terms of illness progression, survival, and quality of life in the short and long term. These are prognostic concerns. The expected results of a disease or condition, as well as the likelihood that they will occur, are referred to as prognosis. Prognosis also covers the consequences of a disease or condition throughout time, as well as the projected possibility of recovery or chronic morbidity, based on a set of characteristics known as prognostic factors or prognostic indicators. Variables that predict whether patients are likely to improve or deteriorate over time are known as prognostic factors.
