Immunodeficiency Diseases and Disorders

Immunodeficiency, also known as immunocompromisation, is a condition in which the immune system's ability to fight infections and cancer is weakened or missing. Extrinsic factors that impact the patient's immune system cause the majority of cases to be acquired ("secondary"). HIV infection and environmental factors such as diet are examples of extrinsic influences. Immunocompromisation can also be caused by hereditary conditions like SCID. Immunosuppression by various medicines, such as steroids, can be an unintended side effect or the intended goal of treatment in clinical settings. Any element of the immune system might be affected by immunodeficiency diseases. T or B lymphocytes (or both) do not function normally, or your body does not create enough antibodies, which causes several illnesses. Immunocompromised refers to a person who has some form of immunodeficiency. In addition to the typical infections that can afflict everyone, an immunocompromised individual may be particularly vulnerable to opportunistic infections.
