Title : Prevalence and distribution of allergy to common foods and drinks among residents in mogadishu – Somalia
Abstract:
In terms of the patients showed clinical presentation of Tonsillitis (n= 39, 50.6%) followed by Dermatitis (n=26, 33.8%) and Conjunctivitis (n=12, 15.6%). All patients did not show presence of any comorbidity while all had family history of allergy (n=77, 100%). In terms of allergy to different foods, drinks and fruits, most of the patients were allergic to milk (n=22, 28.57%), Banana (n=12, 15.58%), wheat (n=11, 14.29%), Barley and Shrimp, (n=8, 10.39%), respectively. Female patients were more allergic to Banana, Barley and milk than male patients. Patients with Tonsillitis, Dermatitis and Conjunctivitis seem to be more allergic to fruits including Banana, Barley, and Shrimp, and foods like Wheat and Egg whole.
Our assessment presents an insight into the patterns of food allergy among residents in Mogadishu. Milk, Banana, Wheat, Shrimp and Barley showed to be the most items contributing to the patient allergy.
